The printing method involves toner being deposited on a metal sheet by electrophotographic units (3,4,5) during which the toner is tentatively fixed at a low temperature by a tentative fixing unit (9). The toner is finally fixed at a higher temperature by a fixing unit (9a) to complete a printing operation. A solid printed surface is obtained by applying finishing varnish to the surface of the toner layer.
