PURPOSE:To prevent the deterioration of a catalyst further to reduce a number of terminals in a control part, by detecting a misfire from an ignition control signal in an ignition coil and stopping the injection of fuel to a cylinder generating the misfire. CONSTITUTION:Ignition control signals Ig1, Ig2 from timers 10, 11, connected to a microcomputor 2, are input to a misfire detecting means 16. The microcomputer 2 inputs signals from a cylinder discriminating sensor 17, crank angle sensor 18 and the misfire detecting means 16, and when a misfire is detected, a fuel injection valve driving coil 3 is stopped in a cylinder generating the misfire. In this way, an engine enables the deterioration of a catalyst to be prevented while the increase of a number of input/output terminals in an engine control part 1 to be suppressed.
