PURPOSE:To easily apply remote control to a repeater from a terminal equipment by providing a means detecting a command issued to the repeater from a bit group, to the repeater. CONSTITUTION:A repeater in a star type local area network (star type LAN) connected in hierarchy is provided with a means (LAN controller) 21 fetching a byte or bit group not used in the standards of the communication protocol adopted by the network at a prescribed location in the frame of the sent packet, a means (memory) storing the bit group and a means (CPU) 23 detecting a command or address information to the repeater from the bit group. The bit group is assigned as a command or address information to a repeater on a network exchanging or relaying the packet, and the command or address information is sent from the terminal equipment to the repeater.
