PURPOSE:To compensate the picture deterioration due to ghost noise by providing a signal synthesizing section synthesizing an output signal of a D/A converter and a picture input signal so as to generate an output of the picture compensating circuit. CONSTITUTION:A normal picture signal and a ghost noise component retarded by a prescribed time (t) and having an amplitude having the multiple of alpha(1>alpha>0) with respect to the normal picture signal exist in a picture input signal 10. The time (t) retarding the ghost noise from the normal picture signal is given to a memory control section 2 manually externally. The memory control section 2 calculates the address of the line memory 4 storing the picture signal before the time (t), reads the picture signal by the time (t) before, gives it to the D/A converter 5, where the signal is converted into an analog signal. which is sent to a signal synthesizing section 6. A multiplier 7 of the signal synthesizing section 6 applies -alpha times as much as the picture input signal 10 at first and the result is sent to an adder 8. Thus, the noise component due to the ghost in the picture output signal is reduced and the picture quality is improved.
