PURPOSE:To obtain the title paint which, when applied to the surface of a combustible object and a fire breaks out, foams by the heat of a fire to form a strong heat-insulating film which prevents the object from flaming, by kneading a powdery heat-foamable rock with water glass. CONSTITUTION:A flame-retarding fireproof surface paint is prepared by kneading a power of a heat-foamable rock (e.g., pearlite) or ground stone with water glass. When this paint is applied to the surface of a combustible object, the paint can foam by the heat of a fire to form, on the surface, a strong heat- insulating layer which can prevent the flame from propagating to the object and prevent the object from being burnt.
