PURPOSE:To attain highly accurate time base correction over the entire time period of a video signal with simple constitution by recording a signal with a time signal superimposed thereupon onto a medium such as a magnetic tape in advance and reproducing the medium. CONSTITUTION:A signal reproduced from a recording medium recorded in advance by a head 300 is fed to a low pass filter (LPF) 320 and a band pass filter (BPF) 330 through a reproducing amplifier 310 and the FM video signal extracted through the LPF 320 is given to the FM demodulator 340, from which a video signal VD is demodulated and the signal is converted into a digital signal by an A-D converter 350 and written in a memory 360 in the timing according to the fluctuation of the time axis by using the time signal extracted through the BPF 330. Then the signal written in the memory 360 is read by the reference timing not including the time axis fluctuation by the clock from the oscillation circuit 370, converted into an analog signal by the D-A converter 380 and outputted. Thus, the time base correction with high accuracy is attained over the entire time period of the video signal.
