PURPOSE:To obtain smoothness for an oblique edge part nearly equal to that of a frame still in case of the field still by applying interpolation to the period corresponding to the detected oblique edge by the interpolation method different from that at the period other than the oblique edge. CONSTITUTION:Means 4, 5 detecting the oblique edge and an interpolation means 6 interpolating the edge different from the interpolation method in the period other than the edge, are provided. Then in the period corresponding to the oblique edge, interpolation is applied by a line to be interposed above and below the interpolation line upper or lower by one line and a line signal whose phase of subcarrier is inverted and a sample point making the phase of the subcarrier equal is used, and the period other than the oblique edge is interpolated by a line being upper or lower by one line to be interpolated and a signal of the line with equal subcarrier phase. Thus, smoothness nearly equal to the frame still is attained to the oblique edge regardless of the field still.
