PURPOSE:To eliminate the need for a start bit or stop bit by multiplexing a digital picture signal, a prescribed control signal and a state signal in time division and multiplexing the control signal by gradation and transmitting the result as an optical signal of 3-gradation or above, thereby lowering the optical fiber transmission frequency. CONSTITUTION:The optical signal is a signal of 3-gradation, the intermediate value is used as a reference level, a 1st synchronizing signal D1 is used as a minimum value (or maximum value) and a 2nd and subsequent transmission signals D2-Dn as the masimum value (or minimum value) to apply time division multiplex. In this case, signals such as a data, a line synchronizing signal, and a line gate signal to be transmitted within a 1st clock are subjected to time division of one picture element signal, and the control signal whose deviation may be permitted by several clocks on above is subjected to time division multiplex in picture signals by several picture elements having the period of synchronizing signal and data signal within one clock. Thus, a complicated circuit such as detection of control signal, a start bit and a stop bit are not required. |
