PURPOSE:To increase the quantity of heat generated from a cake and to reduce moisture content, by primarily dehydrating a substance hard to dehydrate to form a dehydrated cake and adding a dry powder prepared by mixing the dried powder of the same kind and ash to said cake to obtain a dehydrated cake powder and pressing and squeezing said cake powder to perform secondary dehydration. CONSTITUTION:To the dehydrated cake of a substance hard to dehydrate preliminarity subjected to primary dehydration, a dry powder prepared by mixing a dried powder of the same kind as said cake and ash is added to form a dehydrated cake having the dry powder adhered to the outer periphery thereof. Subsequently, this dehydrated cake is pressed and squeezed to perform secondary dehydration to dehydrate the substance hard to dehydrate. The combustible component in the aforementioned dry powder is pref. 5-60%. When the sludge thus dried and ash are mixed, the dried sludge does not lose water permeability necessary for secondary dehydration by the replenishment of ash partially absorbing moisture to swell.
