PURPOSE:To obtain a filter medium difficult to be deformed having improved productivity by retaining the filter medium which is folded corrugated shape in the cross-section and in ring-shape by means of members which fix the filter medium from the upper and lower recessing parts and has a comb-shaped press member. CONSTITUTION:In a filter element 1 for fluid, a circular arc-shaped filter medium is folded so that the cross-section is made to a chevron-like ring shape and is retained with retaining members. A first retaining member for retaining the filter medium from the lower part consists of both a plurality of grooved members retaining the valley parts 4 of the filter medium and an end plate 5 having a comb-shaped member for retaining the butt end parts of the filter medium. A second retaining member for retaining the filter medium from the upper part consists of both ring-shaped recessing parts 8 for fixing the valley parts 4 and a comb-shaped retaining part 10 for retaining the butt end parts of the filter medium from the upper part. Since the filter medium is retained from the upper and lower parts with these retaining members, the airtightness is kept and the filter medium is difficult to be deformed.
