PURPOSE:To obtain a zinc oxide type varistor having large surge resistance and high varistor voltage per unit thickness easily by sintering mixed powder, which mainly comprises zinc oxide and to which 0.1-10 mol % chromium silicide is added. CONSTITUTION:A mixture, which mainly comprises zinc oxide and contains at least chromium silicide at 0.1-10 mol % in conversion to the shape of CrSi2, is sintered. Chromium silicide displays the effect of the inhibition of the growth of zinc oxide particles in the same manner as conventional silicon oxide, and bulk specific gravity is further increased, grinding is promoted uniformly and dispersibility is also improved, thus preventing the generation of voids in a sintered body. Accordingly, surge resistance is augmented, and varistor voltage per unit thickness is raised. |
