PURPOSE:To produce the title polymer excellent in reactivity and having a high degree of polymerization, by reacting a specific substituted acetylene polymer with a halogenating reagent in the presence of a radical generator in a solvent. CONSTITUTION:A substituted acetylene polymer having a number-average mol.wt. of 4,000 or more in terms of PS and having in its part at least one structural unit of the given formula [wherein R<1> is alkyl in which the C which is directly bonded to a double bond in the main chain has at least one H atom, or alkenyl having allylic carbon which has at least one H atom; and R<2> is at least one functional group selected from the group consisting of (substituted) alkyl, trialkyl, substituted trialkylsilyl and (substituted)aromatic group] is reacted with 0.01-200mol. equivalent of a halogenating reagent (e.g., N- chlorosuccinimide) based on 100 repeating units of the polymer in the presence of a radical generator (e.g., benzoyl peroxide) in a solvent (e.g., CCl4) at -50-200 deg.C for 5min-30hr.
