Drum-type washing machine with a continuous-flow heater resembling a hollow-cylindrical body and intended for heating the washing lye. The throughflow cross-section of the continuous-flow heater is reduced considerably even after only a few operating hours as a result of deposits of lime and lint on its inner wall. In order to prevent such deposits from settling or clinging to the inner wall of the continuous-flow heater (10), the hollow-cylindrical body (11) is provided, on one end face (13), with an inflow-pipe connection (14) which is intended for connecting the lye-return conduit (9') and the diameter of which is selected substantially smaller than the diameter of the hollow-cylindrical body (11). The inflow-pipe connection (14) is arranged relative to the end face (13) of the hollow-cylindrical body (11) in such a way that the liquid enters with a flow directed towards the inner wall (15) of the hollow-cylindrical body (11). As a result of the proposed measures, the stream of liquid conveyed through the hollow-cylindrical body (11) acquires a spiral or turbulent flow. <IMAGE>
