A xenon short-arc discharge lamp has a lamp tube (1) made of quartz glass, into which two rod-shaped electrodes (4, 5) protrude. The distance between the electrodes is less than the diameter of the shaft (8) of the cathode (5). The cathode has a conical obtuse-angled tip (9). By doping with a metal halide, e.g. thallium iodide, the spectral radial density in the plasma region immediatly in front of the cathode (5) is appreciably increased in comparison with that in an undoped xenon short-arc discharge lamp, a stabilized cathode spot functioning is achieved by means of a current-controlled tungsten-halogen cyclic process, and no tungsten is deposited on the internal wall of the lamp tube (1). |
