PURPOSE:To obtain the titled excellent remedy, containing a benzofuro[3,2- c]quinoline derivative (salt) as an active ingredient and having powerful inhibitory action on bone resorption and low toxicity. CONSTITUTION:The aimed remedy containing a benzofuro[3,2-c]quinoline derivative expressed by formula I {R<1> is (substituted) 1-10C alkyl; R<2> is H, OH or -OR<3> [R<3> is (substituted) 1-10C alkyl]} (e.g. 3-isopropoxy-5H-benzofuro[3,2- c]quinolin-6-one) or salt thereof as an active ingredient. Furthermore, the compound expressed by formula I is produced by reacting a compound expressed by formula II (R<3> is H or OH) with a compound expressed by the formula R<1>-X (X is acid residue) in the presence of a basic substance in an inert organic solvent.
