PURPOSE:To obtain gelled silica not contg. chlorine ions or sulfate ions at a lower cost than the cost a conventional process by bringing gas contg. gaseous CO2 at a specified concn. or above into contact with an aq. sodium silicate soln. CONSTITUTION:Gas contg. >=5% gaseous CO2 is brought into contact with an aq. sodium silicate soln. Exhaust gas from a combustion furnace can be utilized as the gas contg. >=5% gaseous CO2. The rate of formation of gel is increased in accordance with the rise of the temps. of the gas and the aq. sodium silicate soln.
