Class 53 Accumulator cells 1 are supported clear of the bottom of an outer container 3 by projections 16 on the cells engaging in openings 18 in supports 17 which are removably attached to the sides of the container. As shown in Fig. 2 and 3 the supports are held between ribs 8 formed on the container and which may be continuous throughout the height of the container, or discontinuous as shown. Strips 19, 20 engage the upper edges of the two opposite side walls of the container and bear on the upper edges of the supports 17 to keep them in place, the strips having lugs 23, 24 which engage in slides formed on the end walls. Instead of separate supports 17 for each cell. a single plate extending the length of the container may be provided, the plate having suspension devices for the cells, and ribs for spacing adjacent cells. The container may be strengthened by cross bars extending between opposite sides. In order to exert a clamping action on the cells the dimensions of the container may be such that when the cells are placed in position the side walls are pressed outwardly. |
