This is a high-level hopper for storing coal, having a loading opening, a discharge opening, and a discharge tube which is inserted into the discharge opening and is mounted rotatably. The discharge tube has a scuffler above the discharge opening and is driven below the discharge opening. Furthermore, there is an accumulation cone above the discharge opening or the scuffler. Attached to the accumulation cone is a drop tube which is extended up into the region of the loading opening. The upper end of the drop tube is closed by means of a cover. In an emergency, namely when the scuffler is stationary, the cover is removed so that coal discharge can be maintained temporarily directly via the drop tube and the discharge tube. <IMAGE>
