<p>This is a second addn. to 2923726, which described the use of sewage sludge as a reducing agent in iron mfr. The novelty in the present invention is the use of a reducing agent which includes other waste materials, e.g. waste paper, wood, polymers or scrap rubber. The waste is pref. mixed or agglomerated, and can be added in a dry or moist state to a blast furnace or a direct redn. plant. The sewage sludge and/or other waste may be mixed with brown coal or coal and converted into coke prior to use. Prior to its exploitation, the sewage sludge is pref. treated with chemicals or fermented to remove its odour. This addn. uses other waste with the sewage, so a substantial saving in conventional and costly reducing agents can be achieved. The waste disposal causing no environmental pollution, as the organic materials burn, while the inorganic materials pass into the slag.</p> |
