PURPOSE:To obtain the titled remedy for osteoporosis, containing a specific benzofuro[2,3-b]quinoline derivative (salt) as an active ingredient, capable of exhibiting powerful inhibitory action on bone resorption and promoting action on osteogenesis and having high safety. CONSTITUTION:The aimed remedy for osteoporosis containing a benzofuro[2,3- b]quinoline derivative (e.g. 11-ethoxybenzofuro[2,3-b]quinoline) expressed by formula I (R is alkoxy, alkenyloxy, aralkyloxy, carboxy, carbamoyl or cyano) or salt thereof as an active ingredient. Furthermore, the above-mentioned compound expressed by formula I is produced by reacting, e.g. a compound expressed by formula II with an alcoholic derivative expressed by the formula R'-OH (R' is alkyl, alkenyl or aralkyl) in the presence of a base.
