The proposal is for a brake system with a master brake cylinder which can be supplied with brake pressure by a brake pedal and has at least one master brake chamber variable by a piston, connected to the outlet opening of which chamber is a brake line leading to the wheel brake cylinder into which there is inserted a solenoid valve which connects the master brake cylinder to the wheel brake cylinder or shuts it off from the latter or connects the wheel brake cylinder to an external energy source for the return of the brake fluid.
