An electrode (1) made of a fluid, gelatinous, pasty or powdery material is used for electric spark cutting. The electrode may also be made of a combination of such materials. The mouthpiece of a nozzle (3) arranged at a short distance from the surface of the workpiece (2) generates the electrode in that the material (20) is moved under high pressure and at a high speed out of the mouthpiece into the working gap (13) of the workpiece (2). The nozzle (3) forms the outer shape of the electrode. One or several nozzles may be used for a workpiece. The working current can be increased many times at the electrode (1), since the current transfer surfaces between the electric spark generator (12) and the electrode (1) are very large. Furthermore, the electric spark machining occurs only within the working gap (13) and not in other undesirable places. The forces acting within the working gap (13) during the electric spark machining cannot affect in any way the jet electrode (1). |
