A self-loading, remotely operable and variable, portable ball thrower (10). An arm (14) with a hand (16) attached thereto is, in the uncocked position, tensioned by an elastic biasing means (18), such as surgical tubing, in the forward direction. An individual batter (26), operator, can, by means of a cocking handle (22), operate the arm (14) in the rearward direction, pick up a ball (28) from a self-loading trough (30), and reset the arm (14) in the cocked position. Assuming a natural batter's stance, the batter (26) may then, with his or her foot, release the cocking handle (22) thereby allowing the elastic biasing means (18) to draw, with ever increasing speed, the arm (14) towards the uncocked position. Upon reaching the uncocked position, the ball (28) is released in a fluid throwing manner in a consistent angle towards the batter (26). The invention enables the batter (26) to raise and lower the pitch in the batting zone by placing the cocking handle (22) in one of a number of adjustment holes so that the batter may practice low or high pitches or different batters of different heights may rapidly adjust the pitch for their needs. Additionally, the device enables the individual batter to throw fly balls, strikes, or grounders. The device is easily disassembled and assembled, is lightweight and portable. |
