PURPOSE:To make it possible to satisfactorily accumulate paper sheets into an accumulating box by automatically retracting a retaining lever which has been projected from a guide in association with an instruction from a control circuit when such a condition that paper sheets cannot be accumulated in the storage box, is detected. CONSTITUTION:Postal matters P extracted from a supply section 1 are accumulated in an accumulating box 5 through a conveying passage 3, and the length of each postal matter is measured by a control circuit 20 in association with turn-on and-off signals from a photo-cell 8 on the way of conveyance, and is stored in memory. Then, the control circuit 20 turns off a solenoid 6 when the postal matter P passes through a photocell 9, and accordingly, a retaining lever 7 is retracted from a guide 4. Further, the solenoid 6 is turned on in accordance with the length stored in memory so as to project the retaining lever 7 in order to push the postal matter P into an accumulating box 5, and then the postal matters P are accumulated in order. Further, when a dark signal from a photocell 9 is lasted more than the passing time of the postal matter P, the solenoid 6 is turned off so as to retract the retaining lever 7, and this retracted condition is sustained until a bright signal is issued. Thus, it is possible to prevent the accumulating condition from being deteriorated.
