Paints to which a pharmaceutical prod(s). (I) having a therapeutic or prophylactic action to reduce or prevent the irritating effect of the volatile components of the paint on the respiratory and conjunctival mucosae are new. The paint may also contain a terpenic substance(s) of alcoholic or phenolic character and capable of modifying its olfactory characteristics, e.g. terpineol, linalol, eugenol, benzylisoeugenol, isoeugenol, geraniol, rhodinol, borneol, carvol or thymol. (I) is esp. a phenylethanolamine deriv., theophylline or a deriv., tretoquinol, ketotifen, guaiacol, sobrerol, ethyl orthoformate or an active terpenic material as therapeutic substance. (I) is esp. cromoglycic acid or its derivs., oxatomide, atemizole, fenspiride, bectomethasone or iodoxamide as prophylactic substance.
