PURPOSE:To enable exact discrimination of the presence or absence of fusion cutting slag of an ingot by subjecting the oscillation which conveying rollers receive during conveyance of the ingot adhered with the fusion cutting slag to a spectral analysis. CONSTITUTION:The oscillation signal detected by an oscillation detector 3 mounted to the bearing of the conveying roller is inputted to a frequency spectral analyzer 11 at the time of conveying the ingot fusion-cut to a suitable length from a steel ingot to the next stage. On the other hand, an ingot position detector 12 is installed just before the oscillation detector 3 to detect the approach of the ingot to the roller mounted with the oscillation detector. The ingot pass signal thereof is inputted to the above-mentioned analyzer 11. The analyzer analyzes the spectral density of the oscillation signal during the passage of the ingot and feeds the spectral density P(phi) to a specific frequency band integrator 13 and a base frequency band integrator 14. An integral value ratio R is computed by an integral value comparing computing element 15 which inputs the ratio together with the threshold value SL to a comparator 16. The ratio is then compared with the SL value and the fusion-cutting slag adhesion signal is outputted as an alarm to a monitor 18.
