PURPOSE:To obtain the titled compd. having superior chemical stability and electrical conductivity and useful as a catalyst, a reactive reagent, a solid lubricant or the like by interposing BaCl2 between layers of graphite. CONSTITUTION:An acceptor type graphite intralaminar compd. obtd. by interposing a metal halide or halogen between layers of graphite such as powdery natural graphite, sheetlike expanded graphite, artificial graphite or graphite fibers, e.g., a stage-2 graphite intralaminar compd. contg. cupric chloride and BaCl2 are filled into a reactor and allowed to react by heating to 250-700 deg.C in a chlorine atmosphere to obtain the desired graphite intralaminar compd. contg. BaCl2 interposed between layers. |
