Considerable heat losses through lateral emission occur in a continuous-flow heater with an electrical jacket barrel heating element mounted on the outside of a metal pipe through which the liquid to be heated flows only on the inside. In order to prevent such heat losses, the jacket barrel heating element (2) is surrounded by a thermal insulation (3) which shields the heating element from the outside and which is designed as moulding or formed from two half shells.
