PURPOSE:To manufacture a carbon material having high electric conductivity and degree of graphitization, by subjecting a gaseous mixture containing boron, chlorine, and carbon to thermal decomposition under specific temp. and pressure on a base material to form a carbon layer. CONSTITUTION:A simple or mixed gas containing three elements of boron, chlorine, and carbon is introduced as a main monomer gas onto a base material of carbon fiber, etc., and subjected to thermal decomposition at 1,000-2,000 deg.C and 1-200mmHg pressure, so that a carbon layer is deposited on the base material. As the gas to be introduced, ethylboron dichloride, e.g., is used. After the coating with the carbon layer, heat treatment is applied at >=about 2,000 deg.C, if necessary. By this method, a carbon material improved in deposition velocity of carbon layer can be obtained. This carbon material can be used for drum, prepreg, heat-resisting plate, etc. |
