PURPOSE:To select an accurate picture size and to focus an optical means on an object through simple operations in a short time, by driving the zoom or focusing of an image input section provided in the optical means and controlling the mechanisms stepwise. CONSTITUTION:A camera 3 with a supporting member coupled with a table for placing an image to be read and a photoelectrically converting section which converts the image to be read on the table into electric signals is used. Moreover, a motor driving circuit 32 which drives the zoom ring 101 and focus ring 105 of an image input section provided in the camera 3 by respectively using a zoom ring driving motor 104 and focus ring driving motor 108 and, at the same time, controls the motors 104 and 108 at two speeds, is provided. Therefore, focusing operations and picture size changing can be performed accurately through simple operations in a short time.
