In a crown-gear universal joint for a fuel injection pump system, the crown teeth 65, 76 are formed on hubs D, E secured to the driving and driven shafts and mesh with internal teeth on housings B, C connected together by bolts 91 engaging the flange 37 of housing C and passing through arcuate slots 22, 23 in the flange 12 of housing B, to permit rotary adjustment of the housings. To ensure correct assembly of the parts each housing has an internal tooth removed for engagement by a pin on the associated hub, and the peripheries of flanges 12, 37 are provided with holes 20, 44 (not shown) for the insertion of tools for rotating the housings until a timing groove on sleeve 52 of housing C is aligned with a timing indicator on the shaft end engaging hub E, when the bolts 91 are tightened on washers 95 to lock housings B, C together. Sealing rings 33, 50, 57 are provided to retain lubricant inserted through openings 25 (not shown) in the flange 12 and provided with screwed closure plugs.</p> |
