The beam adjustment system uses 2 respective setting elements (7,8) for each coordinate axis, acting on the holder (5) for the laser diode to displace it relative to an enclosing housing. The setting elements (7,8) respectively act on 2 adjacent perpendicular side faces of the holder (5), and supported in a slot (11,12) for free movement at right angles to the setting direction. Pref. each setting element (7,8) comprises a threaded screw (16,17) with an attached nut (9,10) contained within a slot (11,12) in the holder (5) preventing movement of the nut (9,10) in the setting direction, but allowing free movement in the perpendicular direction. ADVANTAGE - Unaffected by vibration.
