An arrangement of a soot filter in a diesel engine exhaust system comprises at least two parallel-connected soot filters (5, 6). A regeneration device having at least one burner (10) is provided for regeneration and control flaps (8) are positioned upstream of the soot filters (5, 6) of the arrangement of soot filters, by means of which control flaps (8) the soot filter which is in each case to be regenerated is decoupled from the exhaust gas flow in the exhaust system. The burner (10), which supplies hot combustion gases for regenerating the soot filter, is operated with exhaust gas from the exhaust system, which serves as an oxygen carrier, and the burner (10) is arranged downstream of the control flap (8). According to a first preferred embodiment, a common burner (10) is provided for all these filters to be regenerated and this is not located directly in the exhaust system lines carrying the exhaust gas. It is preferably supplied with exhaust gas via separate exhaust feed lines (11). Alternatively, a separate burner can be assigned to each branch line (3, 4) in which the respective soot filter (5, 6) is located, and can be located directly in the line section upstream of the soot filter. Such a burner can be supplied directly by the exhaust gas leakage occurring at the control flaps. Alternatively, the burners which are assigned to the respective line branch only with the respective soot filters are also arranged in a branch line branching off from these line sections, and the burners are then supplied with a separate exhaust gas feed line.
