PURPOSE:To minimize the drop in illuminance on the surface of an original due to the increase in the distance between a light source and the original surface, by providing a cylindrical lens having one convex surface between the light source and original surface. CONSTITUTION:Light emitted from a fluorescent tube 102 is condensed by means of a cylindrical lens 101 having one convex surface and become nearly collimated light. The light picks up information on an original 106 and forms an image on unmagnification type image pickup element 104 after passing through a condenser type lens array 103. When the cylindrical lens 101 having one convex surface is provided between the light source and the surface of the original, the drop in illuminance on the surface of the original can be minimized even if the distance between the light source and original surface increases.
