PURPOSE:To uniformly and sufficiently illuminate the whole surface of a liquid crystal display element by reflecting light radiated from a light emitting element on the rear face side of a transparent photoconductor and guiding the reflected light to the liquid crystal display element through a color filter. CONSTITUTION:The color filter 3 for reflecting light at random like glared light and penetrating the reflected light is stuck to the surface of the transparent plate-like photoconductor 1 through a concave part 1c and a reflecting member 7 and an untranslucent coating 1f are applied to the rear face and side face respectively. Light 50 from the light emitting element 5 inserted into a hole 1a formed near both the sides of the rear face of the photoconductor is reflected on an inclined face 1b and glared light penetrated into the filter 3 is guided to a liquid crystal display element (not shown in figure). Thereby, the reflected light illuminates the whole surface of the display element uniformly, and since the light is indirect illumination, the longitudinal size of the illuminating device can be narrowed.
