Antiulcer agents contain a chalcone deriv. of formula (I): (where X and Y are each H or together form a direct bond; R1 is H, acetoxy, carboxymethoxy or methoxycarbonylmethoxy; R2 is H, isoprenyl, isopentyl or propyl; R3 is hydroxy or methoxy; R4 is H, OH or methoxy; R5 is H, OH, methoxy or isopentyl; R6 is OH, methoxy or carboxymethoxy; R7 is H or methoxy). Compounds (I) are new, where X and Y are H or together form a direct bond; R1 is H or carboxymethoxy; R2 is H, isoprenyl, isopentyl or propyl; R3 is OH or methoxy; R4 is H, OH or methoxy; R5 is H, OH or methoxy; R6 is OH, methoxy or carboxymethoxy; R7 is H or methoxy; with the following conditions: (1) when R2 = H then R3-R6 are all methoxy; (2) when R2 = isoprenyl, then R1 is carboxymethoxy; (3) when R2 = isopentyl, then R5=R7=H, R4=H, R1=R6= carboxymethoxy; (4) when R4 is not H, then R3 is hydroxy and R4 is methoxy, or vice-versa; (5) when R5 is OH then R6 is methoxy; (6) when R5 is methoxy, then R6 is OH; (7) when R6 is carboxymethoxy, then R1 is OH.
