The reaping bar 9 of a front reaper 1 which is driven mechanically by the power take-off of a supporting vehicle can, when it hits an obstacle, pivot backwards to a safety position. This is made possible by the fact that an articulation shaft 16, which is connected on the driving side to the driven shaft 15 of an angular meshing 13, is installed between the pivoting part and the non-pivoting part of the front reaper 1. The driven shaft 15 may pivot freely about the longitudinal axis of the driving shaft 12 of the angular meshing 13, such that when the reaping bar 9 pivots backwards, the articulation shaft 16 may buckle at its articulation points without the driving elements being damaged.
