PURPOSE:To rapidly process a color picture by operating an MTF correcting means and a picture processing means according to the detection of an area simultaneously with a multivalued threshold decision means. CONSTITUTION:Color code data and density data are fetched by a color separating circuit 7. Accordingly, a path (EE circuit 13) for deciding the threshold of a binarization circuit 14 and the path (MTF correcting circuit 10 and a color data selector 12) of binarized data inputted to the binarization circuit 14 can be simultaneously processed in parallel and the processing speed is improved. The color data selector receiving data from an area extracting circuit 11 is not necessarily operated. In this case, a change is not applied to the data. The MTF correcting circuit may be operated if desired.
