PURPOSE:To prevent a tariff from being charged unless a call with an opponent is performed, by providing an absence informing equipment in a private branch exchange, and informing an absence message to a caller when the number of times of ringing or the ringing time of the call bell of an extension telephone set to which the caller desires to place a call exceeds a prescribed number of times or a prescribed time. CONSTITUTION:The absence informing equipment 7 is connected to the private branch exchange 3 provided on the building manager office, etc., of an employee dormitory. And the absence informing equipment 7 is provided with a counter circuit 11 and a voice synthesis circuit 13 setting a controller 9 as a control center. The absence informing equipment 7 counts the call bell by the counter circuit 11 when a desired extension telephone set 1 is called from a line wire by a DID system or via a relay telephone set 5. And when the count value exceeds the count value set in advance, the voice synthesis circuit 13 is started up, and the absence message is informed to the outgoing person of the line wire (caller). Therefore, since the absence message is sent automatically when a call opponent is absent, it is possible to save the tariff of the call, and to solve incongruity in placing the call.
