PURPOSE:To obtain the titled Ti alloy having higher strength and more satisfactory ductility than a Ti alloy obtd. by a conventional method, by heating a near beta-Ti alloy to a prescribed temp. in an H2-contg. atmosphere to absorb hydrogen in the alloy as well as to carry out soln. heat treatment and by subjecting the alloy to rapid cooling, dehydrogenation and aging. CONSTITUTION:A near beta-Ti alloy is heated to a temp. between the transus (Tbeta) temp. of the alloy and Tbeta-300 deg.C in an atmosphere contg. a hydrogen-contg. substance such as H2 or H2O to absorb >=100ppm hydrogen in the alloy as well as to carry out soln. heat treatment. The heated alloy is cooled at a higher cooling rate than air cooling rate so as to prevent the escape of hydrogen. The cooled alloy is simultaneously dehydrogenated and aged at 100-850 deg.C. Thus, a near beta-Ti alloy having high strength and satisfactory ductility is obtd.
