Class 97(1) The spectacle frame comprises a front bar and hinged side arms, the hinge of each side arm having a rod which extends within the arm and is longitudinally slidable therein, a helical spring being provided on the rod so that it is compressed when the effective length of the side arm is increased. As shown, each side arm 8 has a housing 9 attached to a cut out part thereof by screws 21, one of which passes through an elongated aperture in hinge extension 14. A rod 15 projects from the hinge extension 14 into a hollow chamber 11 within housing 9, this rod having a nut 17 clamping one end of a helical spring 16 the other end of which presses against the wall of chamber 11. By this arrangement, the length of the side arms may be increased, the compression of spring 16 ensuring that the side arms will return to normal length when the spectacles are not being worn. |
