PURPOSE:To speed up readout of data, using a coiled optical fiber at the light receiving section. CONSTITUTION:By using a coiled optical fiber 2 at the light receiving section of this contact-type image sensor, light reflected by an object 4 is made incident on the optical fiber 2 from the direction of an extent of + or -10 deg. from the tangential direction of the optical fiber 2. Therefore, the light reflected by the object 4 is made incident on the optical fiber 2 and propagated through the fiber 2. Accordingly, high-speed data readout can be attained and, since the light transmitting medium used for this image sensor is optical fiber, optical losses can be very small.
