PURPOSE:To reduce the resistance of fluid by a method in which an artificial seaweed having a spindle-shaped cross section by water flow is attached to an underwater structure to permit water to pass in a laminar flow along the surface of the underwater structure. CONSTITUTION:Artificial seaweeds 2 are attached to the surface of an underwater structure 1 by steel halved bands, belts, welding, etc. When the column of the structure 1 is erected in water and touched by water flow, the seaweeds 2 flow backwards along the periphery of the column to form a spindle-shaped wall 7 of the seaweeds 2, where water flows along the wall 7 of the seaweeds 2 without forming Karman vortex. Stress on the underwater structure 1 can thus be relieved owing to no Karman vortex.
