PURPOSE:To decrease the distance from the end face of a scanner main body up to the read position by aligning an optical axis of an optical system member with a center axis of a detection roller for detecting moving quantity of the scanner main body. CONSTITUTION:The central axis of the moving quantity detection roller 8 of a scanner main body 15 in pairs to the left and right provided corresponding to the read width of an original 1 is arranged so as to be aligned to the read optical axis of the optical system member comprising a light source 2, a rod lens array 3 and a solid-state image pickup element 4 and a retainer 18 preventing floating of the original is provided in front of the read position. Thus, the distance from the end face of the scanner main body till the read position is decreased and the floating of the original is prevented.
