PURPOSE:To automatically select either one of images in accordance with the degree of the movement of an object, by mounting an image selection means for alternatively selecting either one of a field image and a frame image when confirms the shift between the images of an odd field and an even field at a freeze time. CONSTITUTION:The light of a light source 2 is made intermittent in a pulsative manner by a light shopper 3 so that a light pulse lies across the tail part of an odd field O and the start part of an even field E. The image of the odd field and that of the even field are collected by light irradiations 1, 2. The image difference between the images of the odd and even fields is calculated by an SUB circuit 101 and further added over the total picture by an SUM circuit 102. This added quantity is compared with a threshold value K conspicuous in flicker by an SH circuit 103 and, when said quantity is larger than the threshold value K, the image data of the single field, for example, the odd field among the image data stored in a memory 9 is read and, contrarily, when said quantity is smaller than the threshold value K, the image of the odd and even fields are read to be displayed and recorded as frame images.
