(A) in the dry, high temp. purificn. of combustion gases with heat recovery from the gases, the novelty is that (a) combustion gases at at least 600 deg.C are fed to the first stage of a reaction tower for cooling and cleaning, in countercurrent to a continuous stream of treatment and heat carrier medium particles, before leaving the top of the tower; (b) the heat absorbed by the downwardly flowing particle stream is released to one or more gas streams in a lower second stage of the tower before the cooled stream is recycled to the first stage; and (c) the mass flow of the particles is controlled according to the amt. of gas to be cleaned. (B) Appts. for carrying out the process is also claimed. ADVANTAGE - The process provides single-stage removal of noxious materials at different temps. and improved waste heat utilisation.
