A mixer for preparing and pumping off mixtures or suspensions containing at least one liquid ingredient. The mixer (10) has a mixing container (14) with a tapering bottom portion (18), in which there is arranged a centrifugal pump (26) which extracts material from the container and returns it via a duct into the upper region of the container. The impeller (36) of the centrifugal pump can be driven by a drive motor (40), arranged above the mixing container, via a shaft (34) which is guided through the centrifugal pump inlet (32) without a gland and passes vertically through the mixing container (14). Arranged immediately next to the centrifugal pump inlet (32) is at least one guide vane (54) which projects vertically into the container interior. Additionally, at least one further guide vane (56), protruding from the inside surface and extending essentially radially, can be provided on the inside surface of the tapering bottom portion (18) of the mixing container. <IMAGE>
