<p>PURPOSE:To obtain excellent characteristics in a low temperature region, by using polarization beam splitters, whose structure has only multilayered films, on one surface of each of a polarizer and an analyzer. CONSTITUTION:A polarizer 1 and an analyzer are formed with polarization beam splitters, which have multilayered films, e.g., MgF2, ZnS and MgF2, on one surface of each substrate. A 1/4 wavelength plate 2 and a Pockels effect element 3 are arranged between the polarizer 1 and the analyzer 4. Since the multilayered films are used in the polarization beam splitters, this sensor performs a function for dividing electric vector into a component, which is in parallel with an incident plane to the polarization beam splitter and a component, which is vertical to the incident plane to the polarization beam splitter, when light in randomly polarized state is inputted. In this constitution, excellent characteristics of both the polarizer and the analyzer are obtained in a low temperature region.</p> |
