PURPOSE:To obtain optical ceramic having high density and high light transmission, by hydrolyzing a mixed solution containing part of metallic component constituting Zr lead titanate Ba except Zr and Zr, drying the formed sol, firing, blending the fired material with the residual constituent component, molding and sintering. CONSTITUTION:A mixed solution (e.g. mixed aqueous solution of titanium tetrachloride and zirconium oxychloride) containing a proper amount of at least one metallic component constituting (Pb,Ba)(Zr,Ti)O3 (hereinafter abbreviated as PBaZT) except Zr and Zr is prepared. Then the solution is hydrolyzed to form sol, which is dried and fired at 700-1,300 deg.C to produce modified zirconia raw material powder of submicron class having excellent dispersibility. Then the powder is blended with the residual constituent component of the aimed PBaZT composition, fired at 500-1,300 deg.C, molded and sintered at 1,000-1,300 deg.C to give the aimed optical ceramic. |
