PURPOSE:To permit access simultaneously with the completion of the exchange of an optical disk, by recording alternate managing information and alternate substance information in individual optical disk on a separate storage means such as a magnetic disk, etc. CONSTITUTION:The separate storage means such as a magnetic disk device 5, etc., is used as the alternate area of the defective area on the optical disk 2, and also, an alternate recording processing means which records also the alternate managing information on the storage means 5, and a backup processing means which transcribes the alternate substance information and the alternate managing information stored in the storage means 5 also on the optical disk 13 for backup are provided. Therefore, it is possible to read the alternate managing information and the alternate substance information for the optical disk 2 from the storage means 5 in an exchange operation where the optical disks 2 that are an autochanger are set in driving devices 3a and 3b. In such a way, access to the optical disk can be permitted immediately after the exchange of the optical disk being completed.
